Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
